DELA QUARSHIE
Dela Quarshie (born 1993, Ghana) is an artist whose work revolves around acrylic on canvas and 3D relief painting. His visual language is rooted in the vibrant aesthetics of pop art, featuring animated, hybrid beings that serve as a reflection of identity in constant evolution.
His anthropomorphic figures—half-human, half-octopus—symbolize the complexity of selfhood and adaptability. Just as the octopus absorbs its surroundings through color, texture, and movement, Dela constructs a dynamic artistic language where identity is fluid rather than fixed. Instead of defining it, he highlights the intricate details that shape individual and collective existence.
Through bold compositions, he explores themes of transformation, hybridity, mental health, and sexuality. His work challenges conventional narratives, encouraging viewers to embrace the multiplicity and fluidity of identity constructs.
Influenced by pop art masters such as Tom Wesselmann, Dela infuses his work with an effervescent energy. His painterly approach creates a space where exaggerated expressions, vivid metaphors, and striking color palettes open up a dialogue on human consciousness and collective imagination.
